Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recently received a $29,500 grant from State Farm. The funding will help provide enough food for 118,000 meals to neighbors experiencing hunger in Marion, Lake and Volusia counties.

In addition to contributing financial support, State Farm agents and employees invested their time. During a special volunteer session on April 22, team members sorted and packed donated food in the main Second Harvest distribution center.

“Forging new community partnerships like this one with State Farm is vital to sustaining hunger relief efforts,” said Derrick Chubbs, president and CEO at Second Harvest. “With 1 in 8 Central Floridians facing food insecurity, every dollar donated, and every volunteer hour served, makes a meaningful difference. We’re grateful to State Farm for stepping up to help meet this critical need.”

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida distributes enough food for 300,000 meals each day through its network of more than 870 community feeding partners in seven Central Florida counties.

"Food insecurity, the inability to access food, impacts many individuals and families throughout the United States," said Jose Soto, State Farm corporate responsibility analyst. "We take immense pride in the dedicated efforts of The Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida as they help people obtain the food and resources they need to thrive."
